“History is who we are and why we are the way we are” by: David McCullough

24 July 2024

Each of us has our own story to tell about what happened in our past. History is about people, actions, decisions, interactions and behaviours. And all of these we can keep as memories or we can bring them to life in our practices.

I was privileged to spend some time with our sisters in Reus and Rome, where I could see that the history of our congregation is marked by so many significant events, it was for me like diving into the depths of religious life.

Meeting and knowing the sisters, learning the history of the congregation by reading and reflecting on written documents from different sources, visiting the places where our Founders lived, witnessed and kept their memories have awakened in me a greater sense of identity and belonging.  Now that I know more about the past and live in the present, I feel a responsibility to pass on the history of the congregation to the next generation and thus contribute to the care of the charism.

I am grateful to the congregation for giving me the opportunity to learn and the space to deepen my personal history and the roots of our charism.
