Called to follow Christ, our only good
6 August 2024On August 2, the Province Mission of Africa began the III Provincial Chapter presided over by Priscilla Latela, Superior General in Kimwenza, D.R. Congo, with the motto “Walking together we follow in the footsteps of Christ our only Good. Artisans of Care”.
For this event, the capitular sisters prepared themselves beforehand by doing their spiritual exercises.
On the 1st, they gathered under the tree of the word, a place for resolving crises and conflicts, thus promoting social cohesion and decision-making. They meditated on the text of the prophet Isaiah (Is. 43, 17-19), which invites us to forget the events of the past and to live the present with hope and trust, listening to the word of God and putting it into practice. Fraternity, mutual love, forgiveness and reconciliation are the most important means to achieve this.
This was followed by a procession into the chapter hall, followed by the breaking and sharing of bread as a sign of trust, love, fraternity and communion. Each sister shared her feelings and attitudes. The day closed with a Marian antiphon.
On the 2nd, the Chapter session opened with a prayer and a hymn to the Holy Spirit, followed by the words of Ascensión Redondo, Provincial Superior. The Constitutions and Directory were then read, and the chapter secretary, scrutineers, moderators and the various working commissions were elected to facilitate the progress of the Chapter. The day ended with the celebration of the Eucharist presided over by Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, Superior General of the cmf.
The following days saw the presentation of the Reports of Government and Administration and the instrument of work, moments of prayer and personal meditation, spaces for group work and sharing, as well as reflection on the congregational strategic plan. Each day ended with the celebration of the Eucharist.
Yesterday afternoon, the capitulants began the recollection in preparation for the election of the Provincial Superior, which will take place this morning.
We ask you to accompany us with your prayers in this important moment for the Province and the Congregation.
