THE ASSUMPTION AND THE VOW OF TARRAGONA

August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary , a major feast in the Catholic Church and as Claretians, is the day of charismatic beginning of the Congregation. This charismatic historical event written by our Mother foundress in her dairy “ Day of assumption of Mary most Holy, I gathered with the young Ladies I had admitted as companions, with great devotion and fervour, offering ourselves to God, by a vow of crossing the seas and going to any part of the world, without dividing the group, not separating ourselves from our superior’s will in anything” (Aut MP #121).  

In our charismatic beginning known as “Vow of Tarragona” shares a profound meaning in our call as Claretians “, a sign of God’s promise through the first disciples of the missionaries of Christ, Mother Paris and her companions. The Vow of Tarragona continue to vibrate in our spirit as Claretians,  to hope against all hope, an anchor that helps us to sail on and to be faithful to our promises; like Mary, the first disciple of the Lord, whose Assumption we celebrate today affirms the dignity of our human body and the hope of our resurrection.  The Solemnity of Assumption and the Vow of Tarragona invites us into a reflection on holiness, obedience and trust in God’s plan.

The vow of Tarragona was the beginning of all of our meaningful missionary works,  it reinforces sense of value and purpose of our discipleship “ one heart, one soul, one family, ready to embark to any part of the world, proclaiming the Good News of the Lord”

Happy Feast Day of the Assumption
