August 1st – A Day of Reconciliation, Unity, and Hope
3 August 2025On the 1st, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the ancient Roman arena was transformed into a giant confessional: 200 tents and more than 1,000 multilingual priests (Italian, Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Polish, etc.) were available to administer the sacrament of reconciliation to young pilgrims.
An impressive crowd waited patiently, in the heat and with great discipline: thousands of young people were present that day to receive the sacrament of confession.
The atmosphere was a mix of fervor, solidarity, and celebration: songs, music, handheld fans, and flags offered protection from the sun, while deep spiritual exchanges took place. It was an intense moment of closeness to God, an experience in which confession became a sign of hope, peace, and personal renewal.
For the city of Rome, this day left a strong symbolic mark: a message of peace brought by young people from all over the world.
That same day, the Spanish Episcopal Conference organized a pilgrimage for all the Spanish youth participating in the Jubilee in Rome. They gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the event.
More than 50 Spanish bishops presided, including Cardinals Omella (Barcelona) and Cobo Cano (Madrid), along with the Primate Bishop Argüello.
The program began at 6:00 p.m. with testimonies, songs, and prayer, followed by Mass at 8:00 p.m., celebrated by Monsignor Argüello. It was a moment of unity, fraternity, family, and hope. In his homily, Mons. Argüello emphasized that “the love of God is poured into our hearts” and invited the youth to become agents of fraternity and peace. He also reminded them that the Church is “a school of the ‘we’”, a community united in the Spirit.
