Encounters that Strengthen the Synodal Journey
19 January 2026In the context of the canonical visit, Priscilla Latela, Superior General, and Amilbia Penagos Martínez, General Prefect of Formation, accompanied by Jolanda Kafka, Provincial Superior of Europe, experienced in Madrid two special encounters that strengthened the bonds of communion, dialogue, and shared mission.
The first of these encounters, on January 12, was at the headquarters of CONFER (Spanish Conference of Religious). They were welcomed by the Secretary General, Jesús Miguel Zamora Martín, FSC, in a fraternal, close, and dialogical atmosphere that allowed for a deeper understanding of the reality and challenges of consecrated life in Spain, confirming and consolidating once again the commitment to continue walking together, in interconnection between congregations, with the local Church, dioceses, and various ecclesial institutions. In this context, we also greeted other members present and acknowledged the service of an RMI sister as coordinator of the regional and diocesan CONFER groups.
The second encounter took place on January 15, with Cardinal José Cobo, Archbishop of Madrid. It was truly a gift to share time with him; an experience of fraternity, closeness, and dialogue on topics concerning the Church and consecrated life in the Diocese of Madrid. The importance of remaining attentive to reality, focusing on mission, and continuing to work in network as an evangelical sign and synodal response to the challenges of the present time was emphasized.
Both encounters were an experience of strong ecclesial communion that encourages continuing to walk together, strengthening collaboration and missionary commitment in service to the Kingdom.
