FLORENTINA SANGLER: Patroness of Postulants

22 September 2025

Today, September 22, 2025, we celebrate Postulants’ Day in our congregation and wish all postulants a joyful response to the Lord every day, following the example of Florentina Sangler, who with serenity endured all difficulties in a new mission in Cuba.

Florentina was a faithful companion of Mother Foundress when they were both postulants in the Company of Mary. Mother Foundress wrote in her writings about the Lord’s revelation about Florentina Sangler would go wherever necessary and assist her in the foundation with her resources (cf. Aut. 60).

The joy of the communion did not last long. Very shortly after arriving in Cuba on May 26, 1852, Florentina became seriously ill on September 14. The doctor could not determine the severity of her illness, which led to her death six days later, on September 20, 1852 (cf. Aut. 179).

Her death caused great sorrow among the sisters, especially for Mother Foundress: “I loved her as part of my soul; I felt so much pain from this sorrowful separation, it feels as if my soul were separated from my body.”

Happy Postulants’ Day!

During these days, the text “María Antonia París, friend and companion in the journey” is being distributed.
