Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate heart of Mary

26 June 2025

The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 2025 falls on Friday 27 of June and it follows by the memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Saturday. These two celebrations are closely linked to one another which  highlight God’s love and compassion for humanity.  Mary’s heart is a symbol, representing her interior life, her love for God and her son, her role in Salvation History as a model of faith and discipleship. Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart Mary are not explicitly mentioned in the bible, but it is supported by the entire writings  of sacred scripture.

Mary’s womb is the arch of the covenant, in purity of heart she carried out the salvific plan of God, accepted with total surrender to let “THE WORD OF GOD “made flesh in her womb.  Her mission does not end there, but throughout her life, she kept all things in heart (Luke 2:19), which described her thoughtful reflection,  contemplating, living and accepting all that she witnessed on Jesus’ life and ministry.

God’s Compassionate heart pours out into her since the moment she carried Jesus in her womb. Two hearts are pure and inseparable. Jesus and Mary, the twin hearts. Mother Mary’s Yes was an act of love of God and compassion for humanity, it flows from the purity of heart.  Mother Mary would always lead her children to the Jesus, where compassion and love flow without limit

There are many passages in the Old Testament that speak about God’s compassion towards his people. In today’s first reading, Prophet Ezekiel, clearly tells us about the compassionate heart of God, described him as a Good Shepherd, who would sacrifice himself just to rescue the lost and scattered in cloudy and dark times: “The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal” (Ez 34: 16).

And we too call Jesus, a Good Shepherd. He leads us to a safer place, to green pastures, lead us out of darkness into the light, heal us from our brokenness of sin through his suffering and death.  This same love has been poured out into our hearts, that we too have a passion for Christ and humanity.

The devotion to the Sacred Heart focuses on Jesus’ divine love, compassion, and suffering, while the Immaculate Heart emphasizes Mary’s virtues, sorrows, and maternal love.

During these days, the text “María Antonia París, friend and companion in the journey” is being distributed.
